The “Jubilee” issue; later revenues and stationery; after 1901
The new series introduced in 1887 maintained the use of doubly fugitive lilac or green ink on each value, while complementing it with a bright second colour or a coloured paper. Only the 1-penny remained a simple lilac and the 1-shilling remained a simple dull green, though this was changed in 1900 to a bi-colour design.
The death of Queen Victoria in 1901 signaled the end of an era; but in postal matters there was continuity as her son and successor, King Edward VII, opted to keep most of the stamp and stationery designs, changing the portrait and modifying the frames only slightly. In the new century, further innovative uses for stamps continued to arise.
